A carer is someone who looks after a relative or a child, a partner or a friend, who needs their help because they are ill, frail or have a disability.


If you are a carer, or if you know someone in this situation, then we may be able to help.


Crossroads Care Swansea Neath Port Talbot offers high quality, flexible respite to Carers of all ages from 8 years upwards.


We provide a flexible health care and social care replacement service that can deliver the following support to cared-for adults when it is most needed, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to relieve the Carer:


Social Care:


  1. Bathing in bed / bathroom / chair to include all aspects of personal hygiene
  2. General personal care
  3. Assistance with management of continence of bladder and bowel
  4. Assistance with dressing and undressing
  5. Light meal preparation and assistance with feeding
  6. Finger nail cutting expext for diagnosed diabetics or patients with peripheral vascular disease
  7. Care of pressure areas and prevention of sores
  8. Escorted outings - social activities / appointments / shopping
  9. General support / a sitting service 1 - 24 hours
  10. A tailored service to meet the specific needs of Carers in Employment and those wishing to return to work

Health Care:

  1. Administering medication as prescribed by a qualified medical practitioner
  2. Assistance with therapeutic programmes for rehabilitation and development as agreed with appropriate clinical professionals
  3. Certain delegated nursing task such as: -
    1. Assisting with artificial feeding - (nasogastric tube, gastrostomy)
    2. Administration of medication by specialised techniques, such as PEG / rectal medication
    3. Tracheostomy care
    4. Monitoring of metered dosage device (such as syringe drivers)
    5. Assistance with eye drops, nose drops and ear drops
    6. Illeostomy, colostomy, catheter care - changing bags
    7. Suctioning using Yankauer

Our service also includes:

A Young Carers Project

Our vibrant Young Carers Project is now celebrating its 10th anniversary and provides respite and support to Carers between the ages of 8 and 18 years across Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot. We offer young carers the opportunity to become registered with the project; receive information relevant to their caring role; sign-posting; counselling; advocacy and social activities.  The project also raises awareness of the needs of young carers throughout Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot. 

In Swansea we have a Young Carers Education Development Worker, based in local schools, raising awareness and providing advocacy for Young Carers.

Our Weekend Day Centre is highly succesful and lively. Established in 1999, it provides weekend day care for people living in Neath Port Talbot, 52 weeks a year to bring reasonable 7 hour blocks of respite to their carers each Saturday and Sunday. 

 Additionally we work in conjunction with:-

  1. The Parkinson's Disease Society, Swansea Branch.
  2. Swansea Palliative Intermediate Care Team S.P.I.C.E. - providing palliative and terminal care support.
  3. The Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University (ABMU) Health Board.
  4. City and County of Swansea Social Services.
  5. Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council Social Services.
  6. The Stroke Association
  7. Motor Neurone Disease Association
  8. PRT Carers Centres at Swansea and Neath, Port Talbot
  9. Cancer Information & Support Services (CCIS) 


And we are active members of: -
  1. Swansea Carers Action Group
  2. Neath Port Talbot Carers Strategic Group
  3. South West Wales Neurolgical Alliance
  4. Children in Wales Young Carers Network
  5. Young Carers Action Groups in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot
  6. Swansea Children and Young People's Partnership

Our Services are also available privately on a not-for-profit fee paying basis - prices are available on request.


Crossroads Care Swansea Neath Port Talbot is accredited by the social servcies department of City and County of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot. We are also registered  with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate, Wales,  in accordance with Care Standards Act 2000.

The carer support workers employed by Crossroads Care Swansea Neath Port Talbot are carefully recruited. All staff are subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure. They take part in a thorough induction process and are fully trained - meeting all regulatory and professional requirements.
